고트프리트 하벌러(Gottfried Haberler)빈 대학교에서 박사 학위를 받았다. 빈 대학교와 하버드 대학교에서 가르쳤다. 미제스의 제자로 미국기업연구소(American Enterprise Institute) 상근연구원이었으며, 미제스연구소의 석좌연구원을 지냈다. 주요 저서로는 ≪지수의 상식(Sense of Index Numbers)≫, ≪국제무역 이론(Theory of International Trade)≫, ≪번영과 공황(Prosperity and Depression)≫, ≪경제성장과 안정(Economic Growth and Stability)≫ 등이 있다.
